The Trinity UMC School

In the 1970s, the members of TUMC made an important decision to influence the children of the San Antonio community.  They began the weekday children's ministry and established The Caring Place for two, three and four-year-olds.

The preschool later added infant/toddler and Mom's Day Out programs to its venue of ministry.  In the spring of 1999, when the new facility was completed, the Administrative Church Council of TUMC voted unanimously to extend the existing preschool into an elementary school for grades K-5.  The Trinity UMC School opened in the fall of 2000 with 37 children in grades K-2.  Each year a grade level was added.  In the spring of 2005, the school formed a separate corporation, owned by TUMC.  For more information about The Trinity UMC School, please contact Debra, Trinity UMC School Director, at 684-5214 or e-mail debras@tumcsa.org. Preschool Program

The Trinity UMC School preschool program is an outreach ministry to children from six weeks through four years of age.  The purpose is to develop the children's understanding of God and Christian values by creating a caring and encouraging environment and to promote their intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development through experiential activities.

As soon as they have the ability, the children who attend the preschool study all developmentally appropriate academic areas, music, art, physical education, Spanish and the Bible. Both part-time and full-time children in our preschool receive loving care and wonderful preparation for school. The program far exceeds state requirements for programming, ratios and teacher qualifications.  The preschool is usually full and has a wait list.  However, church members receive a priority for placement and every effort is made to place church families in our program.

An effort is also made on the part of school staff to incorporate new families, who may be looking for a church home, into the church.  Several hundred current members came to our church through enrolling their children in the school.  Accreditation: The preschool from age two years through kindergarten is accredited by the Kindergarten Council.

A Message from Debra, TUMCS Director

As the Director of Trinity United Methodist Church School, I am grateful for the privilege of working in a profession where I can express my passion - the education of children.  God has called me to service in the area of children's ministry in education, and it is very fulfilling.  It continues to be a thrill to see the children run (or be carried) down the sidewalk each day with enthusiasm for learning and growing in a supportive Christian environment.

My prayer is that you will visit the school, pray for the school, and support the school's outreach and development.  I hope you will become part of the wonderful ministry opportunity given to these little ones.  The school is a visible and significant presence in our community, helping develop Christian values.  My hope is that we will continue to grow in a way that touches children and families with the love of our Lord.  The weekday programs are providing a vital ministry to our community and church families.

God is working through our school, providing a Christian influence in so many different ways.  He is blessing us for caring for and educating His children to be strong, faithful adults in a difficult world.

We covet your prayers and concern for the safety and well-being of all the children and staff in our ministry.

Why We Started The Trinity UMC School

The school grew from the desire of parents to add a religious dimension to their children's education.  Creating more United Methodist private schools to teach faith as part of the curriculum could help "change the course of our country, Christianity, and The United Methodist Church."

Elementary School Program

The Trinity UMC School is operated by TUMCS and has over two hundred students students. The curriculum is based on brain development and how it affects learning.  It is designed to help children love learning and acquire the skills needed to seek knowledge.

The program takes place in a Christian-based environment, emphasizing "Christ skills" needed to live in our world.  The staff of the elementary school program consists of highly experienced and trained professionals.  Senior Pastor Rev. Margaret Decker and Children Ministry Director Becky Thaxton provides chapel each week and the children look forward to this time teaching about "Christ skills," how to live Christian lives and learning to pray.

There are many field trips to areas of interest, including the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, the beach, dinner theater and the library, to name a few.  Accreditation: The elementary school is accredited by the Independent Schools. This is a most prestigious organization, with less than a handful of private schools in our county accredited by this agency.
